Buying at Kodner

Kodner offers a variety of bidding methods to suit your individual buying preferences including gallery bidding or on-line bidding. Gallery bidding includes live in-person bidding, absentee bidding and phone bidding. On-line bidding is available at one of our four internet bidding platforms, LiveAuctioneers, Bidsquare, Invaluable and The Saleroom. Whichever method of bidding you choose please first review the items of interest to you, check the catalog description, condition report and estimate. Review our on-line photos. Kodner invites you to preview auction items at the gallery the week preceding the auction where you can examine the items first hand and ask questions of our staff. Additional condition reports may be requested on-line using the Kodner Condition Report Form or by phoning the gallery.

Remember items sold at auction are sold “As IS-Where-Is”. It is the bidder’s responsibility to satisfy herself of the condition of items prior to bidding. All Kodner sales are governed by our Terms and Conditions. Please fully read and understand the Terms and Conditions prior to placing any bids. When registering to bid or submitting a bidder registration form you are agreeing to our Terms and Conditions. Any questions should be directed to help@kodner.com or by phoning the gallery at 954-925-2550.

Regardless of the method of bidding the first step is to register to bid. Gallery bidders can register in person at the gallery. Bidders can also register using the Bidder Registration Form or by phoning the gallery. You will be assigned a bidder number. In-person gallery bidders will receive a bidder card to use during the auction. Proof of identity and credit information is required when first time bidders register.

To register on one of the on-line bidding platforms please follow the bidder registration procedures you will find at each site. Links to each bidding platform are embedded in the logo for each site at the Kodner home page.

Gallery Bidding

Live In-Person Gallery Bidding.

Attend the auction. After registering as a bidder a bidder number will be assigned to you. You will be given a bidder card with your bidder number. When bidding on an item hold your bidder card or hand up so the auctioneer can recognize and acknowledge your bid. Be aware of competing bids called out by the auctioneer. Competing bids may come from other gallery, absentee, phone or internet bidders. If you are the successful bidder the auctioneer will announce the item is “sold to buyer X”. You will be asked to show your bidder number to the auctioneer.

Absentee Bidding.

An absentee or left bid is a fixed amount bid left with the gallery for execution by the auctioneer. As with in-person gallery bidding you must first register to bid as though you are bidding in person either by registering at the gallery, using the on-line Bidder Registration Form or by phoning the gallery. The auctioneer will bid for you up to your left bid. You may elect to leave a bid “plus one” which allows the auctioneer to bid one increment higher than your left bid so that in the event of a tying bid your “plus one” bid will prevail. Absentee bids registration will be accepted up to 4:00 pm EST on the day of the auction.

Phone bidding

A gallery representative will act as your proxy during the auction to execute your bid. You must first register to bid as though you are bidding in person either by registering at the gallery, using the on-line bidder Bidder Registration Form or by phoning the gallery. The gallery representative will call you several lots prior the lot you have requested to phone bid. The representative will advise you of the competing bids and ask if you want to bid. Remember auction bidding is fast paced and you must be prepared to act. Know in advance what the maximum you intend to bid. Be decisive. Phone bid registration will be accepted up to 4:00 pm EST on the day of the auction.

In each case of gallery bidding remember in addition to the hammer price a 21% buyer’s premium and applicable sales tax will be added. When checking out after the auction present your bidder number and you will receive an invoice for the items you successful bid showing hammer price and buyer’s premium (sales tax and shipping as applicable). Phone and absentee bidders will receive an email invoice. Cash, personal check, cashier’s check, wire transfer or major credit card (invoices less than $1,000) are accepted as payment.
